Check out the video we shot the other day in Venice, California with one of the local franchises, Stretch Lab:

What is a boutique fitness franchise?

Boutique fitness studios are most often described as smaller gyms focused on groups of people exercising together with an instructor. They usually focus mainly on just one or two areas of fitness. Stretch Lab, for example, focuses only on stretching and is doing extremely well in the California area!

One of the most remarkable aspects of these kinds of franchises is the premium price tag. Due to their specialized nature and instruction per class, they are worth upwards of $20-30 per class (depending on the area). Soul Cycle, for example, charges $32.00 per class. People pay it because they view boutiques as higher quality. They often are due to their hyper-focus on just what they do and nothing else.

Boutique chains of fitness centers have been growing at a rate of 450% per year. This has been happening all the way back since 2010.

Will all of this rapid growth continue? Will these types of fitness studios maintain their localized appeal? What could this mean for the large gym corporations that have been around for decades?
